Quilting on the Prairie Retreat 2010: September 17th-19th

We are thrilled to host Heather Mulder Peterson as our featured teacher for the weekend. Heather designs under the name Anka’s Treasures, a tribute to her grandmother who was a significant inspiration in her life. Heather publishes a wide variety of quilt books and patterns that often make use of pre-cut fabrics including jelly rolls, charm packs, and honey buns.
You’ll also recognize her fabrics designed for Henry Glass. Their cheerful, whimsical style are sure to catch your eye. We’ve ordered all her new fabric lines, so be sure to check out the fabrics page of our website to order her fabrics as they arrive.
Heather and her husband, Joel, and dog, Daisy, live near Spicer, Minnesota in a lovely house along the lake that they have remodeled from practically the ground up. Be sure to follow Heather on her blog at ankastreasures.wordpress.com. She frequently shares posts about new projects, her love for knitting, family fun, and tons of other inspiring ideas. We look forward to a fabulous weekend of quilting, friendship, and food. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Pre-registration is required for all activities.  Class and lodging space is available on a first-come basis.  We recommend you contact us prior to mailing in your registration to verify space availability for the activities you want to participate in.

Sizzlin Sixties Class
“Strip Pieced Hexagon Blocks Made Easy”

September 17th or 18th, 2010

Friday  OR Saturday

9:30-4:30

Heather found herself caught up in all the things you can do with a 60-degree triangle soon after she purchased a 60-degree ruler.  That 60-degree triangle can be made into your choice of six different blocks, which can then be used in many different layouts.

Choose from a topper, tablerunner, or several different lap quilts.  Several time-saving techniques have been incorporated into the construction of these projects, from strip piecing, to nesting, to avoiding the dreaded Y-seams.  These time saving techniques, along with many other hints, make construction much easier than it seems.

Heather will also teach her basic machine appliqué technique for adding an optional flower to the tablerunner option.

The Bella Bag Class

Saturday, 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Come and learn about all the ideas that went into designing this bag.  There are lots of options to choose from, including three bag sizes, several handle and interior pocket options, and learn about installing grommets.

We're so excited to have hosted Janet Nesbitt and Pam Soliday from the Buggy Barn during our Quilting on the Prairie Retreat, October 10th-12th, 2008. Their trunk show had us laughing as we learned tidbits and tales behind this designing duo of sisters. Three days of class instruction left us experts at the Buggy Barn Crazy technique.
